Honkamp, P.C. announces seven new principals

Dubuque, Iowa (January 25, 2023) – Honkamp, P.C. has announced the addition of seven new principals to the firm effective January 1, 2023.

Michael E. Brannon, CPA, joined Honkamp in 2022. He has more than 25 years of experience in public accounting. Mike works with a variety of businesses in the retail, nonprofit, service, restaurant, manufacturing and health care industries. His specialties include corporate, partnership, personal tax planning and preparation; monthly and annual financial statement preparation; and business consulting. Mike earned a B.S. in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Karla A. Hagerty, CPA, has been promoted to principal. Karla has more than 15 years of experience in the accounting field. She works with a variety of businesses in the retail, nonprofit, service, restaurant, manufacturing and health care industries. Her specialties include corporate, partnership, personal tax planning and preparation; monthly and annual financial statement preparation; and business consulting. Karla earned a B.A. in accounting with an emphasis in finance from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.

Michael J. Hurd, CPA, CCIFP, has been promoted to principal. Mike has more than 20 years of experience in public accounting serving closely-held businesses and their owners. In addition to compliance work, Mike spends much of his time on consulting, business and individual tax planning, and conducting research. His specialties include all areas of federal and state income tax with a focus on corporate and partnership taxation in the health care, retail, wholesale, manufacturing and construction industries. Mike earned his B.B.A. in accounting from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

Danielle M. Lex, CPA, CFE, CGMA, has been promoted to principal. Danielle has more than 20 years of experience in the auditing, tax and accounting fields. Her experience includes seven years as the controller for a local manufacturing company where she was in charge of all aspects of financial reporting including monthly and annual financial reporting, payroll and banking requirements. Danielle also has eight years of experience as a senior auditor for Honkamp, specializing in manufacturing, casinos and wholesale. She helps businesses and individuals with tax planning and preparation, financial planning and general business consulting. Danielle earned her B.A. in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Erin L. Milestone, CPA, has been promoted to principal. With 14 years of accounting and tax experience, Erin dedicates her skills and knowledge to helping her clients succeed in their business endeavors. She works with a variety of businesses in the franchise restaurant, retail and manufacturing industries. Through financial statement and tax planning and preparations, Erin guides her clients to make better data-driven decisions about their business’s future. She specializes in monthly and annual financial statement preparation; corporate, partnership and individual tax preparation; general business consulting, and QuickBooks consulting.

Julie A. Pluemer, CPA, has over 35 years of experience, including 15 years at a top 10 accounting firm. Julie joined Honkamp in 2022. As a principal at Honkamp, Julie works with individuals and small businesses providing tax, accounting and advisory services. She earned her B.S. in business administration with an accounting emphasis from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in Platteville, Wisconsin.

Terrance B. Vaassen, CPA, has over 40 years of experience in accounting. He joined Honkamp in 2022. Terry earned his B.S. in business and economics with a minor in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in Platteville, Wisconsin.
